New school building in Vallefoglia (PU)

Definitive award of the tender for the development of a first school in Montecchio, Vallefoglia (PU).

The new Town Council of Vallefoglia has chosen to pursue the initiative of the development of a first school building, a new building intended to house a section of five classes for a total of 125 students and more than 600 m2 in surface area.

The construction system used for the design by Subissati is the Platform Frametechnique, where all supporting elements are built from lamellar wood. The reference technical standard (NTC 2008) assigns structures built using this construction system maximum dissipative capacity.

The school building has been designed and will be built with structures allowing for the possibility of expanding upwards with another floor with independent entrance.

As compared with the preliminary design, a heating, air-conditioning and air exchange and treatment system has been envisaged, which will be positioned externally and powered by energy produced by the photovoltaic plant.

As per the definitive design, educational activities will take place in 7 rooms: 5 classrooms and 2 rooms for inter-cycle activities. All rooms, apart from part of the surrounds of the entrance hall and distribution, will have ceilings with visible wooden structures.

In addition to the windows in the south wall, to protect against the direct glare of the sun, a brise-soleil is envisaged to avoid any overheating of the classrooms whilst allowing natural light to filter through.

The external supporting wall is 330 mm thick, and this, together with the internal supporting wall (total thickness 285 mm), has been designed to resist fire for 60 minutes (R60).

The global energy class of the structure is A+.

Consideration was also taken of all the needs connected not only to the initial function, but also to the changes, which may take place during the structure's presumed lifetime.

The growing attention paid to matters of air quality and energy savings come into play in the design idea to install a hygroscopic, rotating primary air treatment plant with heat recovery and active thermodynamic recovery with refrigeration/heat pump cycle, for use by the structure. the machine is an air treatment unit with the thermodynamic recovery of heat within which a heat pump is already pre-installed.

The machine can heat, cool, control humidity and ensure free-cooling in midway seasons.
