PLATFORM FRAME
the world’s most popular construction system

‘PLATFORM FRAME’ is the typical construction system used in American wooden houses, and is the evolution of the more famous ‘BALLOON FRAME’ system. Construction takes place floor by floor. The first floor frames are fixed to the basement, after which the first floor is developed. At this point, we continue by fixing the second floor frame to the first, and so on. The internal and external panels and insulation, are laid in place on site.

The foundations are generally developed with reinforced concrete floors, or with underground floors with reinforced concrete septum.
From the ground floor upwards, the wooden structure usually has the following characteristics: the shear resistant internal and external walls consist of 60x160 mm section plywood frames positioned vertically approximately 60 cm apart. They are connected at the foot and top with appropriate metal plates and identical base laminated beams of a suitable height. These frames are stiffened with OSB (Oriented Strand Board) wooden panels at least 18 mm thick. These elements are assembled to obtain the necessary bracing. Assembly between laminated beams and panels uses nails or screws positioned at appropriate distances.

External walls are then externally covered with thermal cladding and relative siloxane silicate plaster, and visible bricks, stones or left with the wooden slats on show.
The wooden structure is connected to the reinforced concrete foundations with suitable threaded steel bars or pressure-fit plugs. The inter-floor floors/ceilings are created with beams resting on plywood, positioned at variable distances depending on the light. An appropriately thick matchboarding is rested on the beams. LSC screed, systems and then any final flooring (parquet, tiles, floating floors, etc.) is positioned on top of the matchboarding.

The thermo-ventilated floor coverings are developed with plywood framework positioned at appropriate distances and covered with matchboarding, wooden slats to house the insulation, insulation, ventilation slat, OSB (Oriented Strand Board) wood panel, waterproofing sheath and final tile covering.

In addition to the PLATFORM FRAME system, we are also able to develop other solutions, such as the typical blockhaus construction and structures with plywood or solid wood support panels.
