Works have been completed on the new first school in Folignano (AP) and the official opening will take place soon.

The construction is for a building measuring approximately 1000 m2, entirely built from lamellar wood.

The first school numbers 5 rooms each measuring approximately 80 m2 and a teaching room of approximately 70 m2. The classrooms are basically laid out along a corridor, opposite the toilets, library, staff room and a few service rooms. These spaces alternate with outdoor green areas and portico zones.

The new school has been designed and built to "blend with the curves and colours of the Marche hills" and its aim is to stimulate the students' intellect, making the structure itself a "structural landscape" in which the colours of the rainbow blend with the colours, materials, essences and seasons of nature. Attending school is compulsory, a duty, but we hope that the architectonic solution offered can help make it a useful, pleasant and interesting experience for the young students.

The idea is the result of timely cultural, formal and technological research; the aesthetic improvement is integrated into the surrounding landscape, sustainably encompassing the technical detail through a useful "contamination" of the bioclimatic architecture. Lights, lines, natural essences and colours are the key points of this "structural, cultural laboratory".

The portico, modulated into a harmonic form, seeks to determine an indelible trace of the intervention and its future development. Its design is the link for the evolution of the entire school area, which, in the near future, will be developing a multi-purpose gymnasium and another school building to be used as a nursery.

The presence of the brise-soleil helps shield the building from the sun's rays and the hot and cold winds, making it a clear characteristic of the school in the territory.

The projection of the unit is moderated by a series of sun shading elements that drop diagonally down from the intrados of the variable-height roof. Thanks to these construction details, the main perspective is marked out along its length and syntactically resolved; the functional study is on a par, which, in addition to protecting the glass façades of the building from the direct radiation, thereby avoiding excessive heat, also helps limit and mitigate the visual impact of the technological systems housed on the roof.

The expression of lightness is flanked by the accuracy of the choice of colours with clear reference to those of the rainbow, of high pedagogic and educational value and reflecting on the glass surfaces to create a stimulating spectacular natural scene.

Transparency is one of the key project themes: towards the outside, on the two sides of the classrooms, it brings the school into direct, continuous communication with the countryside, allowing children to fully perceive the passing of time and changes in light.

The fairly extensive façades of the containment walls to the north of the building, which take shape and consistency according to the wood used for the formwork, will be made gentler by the presence of reddish colour climbing plants, successfully mitigating the powerful impression of the development, exalting its naturally majestic feel.

Outside, the green areas will be characterised by autochthonous deciduous trees filled with aromas and colours to stimulate students to learn about the nature in which they live.

A "green classroom". Useful for directing specific training paths for the institute and hosting visits by other schools relating to studies, outside. A one-of-a-kind in our area, to complete the excellence of the schooling. A structure forming the landscape, which is a culture of Marche, of our beauty. The real culture, that which seeks to optimise the cultural asset, which in our case is the nature and the formation of the student's intellect.
