Another exciting challenge awaits Subissati s.r.l. in the sector of multi-storey wooden buildings. The building site has just opened for the new Socciarelli school, a building designed as an extension to the existing Collodi Institute in via della Montagnola - Ancona.

The project submitted by Subissati s.r.l., in collaboration with Consultec soc. coop. in the call for tenders over recent months is based on additions and improvements to the basic project of the tendering procedure put out by the municipal administration. These proposals relate to both architectural and structural aspects and also to the installations and exteriors.

The contact surface between the old and the new is the façade, on which two buildings surround the large central wall like an embrace. The principal aim of the project is not only to maintain the characteristic division of the profile, but also to enrich it further. The volume of the building has therefore been both increased and decreased, making it highly flexible, and this is highlighted by shadow play and by extension of the overall surface areas. The use of high-performance covering materials and colour on the façade assist in contextualising the new building.

The classrooms  will be flexible andextremely comfortable, due to the use of  natural lighting and optimal artificial lighting, reduction of noise pollution through use of absorbing panels attached to the ceiling and the quality of the materials used.

The exteriors have been designed to eliminate any architectural barriers between the building and the ground level completely and the yard in front of the refectory has been made safer with measures which prevent vehicle traffic during school hours. The safety measures also include special signs which are easy for children to read and understand.

Equally important is the structural system, for which Subissati has proposed thePost and Beam system with rigid-diaphragm flooring created with monolithic lamellar wood elements. This system guarantees that the new building will have two extremely important features, namely a nominal 100-year lifespan and Use Class IV for a reference period of 200 years.

The technologies used aim to integrate the architecture and the installations and functional aspects as closely as possible. The technologies used are:

Photovoltaic solar panel system;

Heat pump system;

Low-inertia floor heating and cooling;

Mechanical ventilation system;

Technological plant supervision system;

Led lighting.

Use of these technologies means the building will have what is currently the best energy class, i.e. class A4-ALMOST ZERO ENERGY. A totem in the garden, alongside the external entrance stairway to the building, will indicate the consumption levels of the new building in real time, and particularly how low they are, confirming the validity of the proposed work .
